2. (U) Purpose: In accordance with references 1.a. and 1.b., this message announces an exception to Army policy that defines when enlisted Soldiers are in an entry-level status pursuant to reference 1.d. This exception to policy remains in effect until reference 1.b. expires or reference 1.d. is revised and published. Reference 1.c. has already been revised and published. The provisions of this message apply to Regular Army, Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and U.S. Army Reserve enlisted Soldiers.
3. (U) Policy: Effective immediately, pursuant to reference 1.b. (available at https://armypubs.army.mil/ under Publications > Administrative > Principal Officials’ Guidance), an exception to policy is approved regarding the definition of entry-level status in reference 1.d. Upon enlistment, a Soldier qualifies for entry-level status during––
3.a. (U) The first 365 days of continuous active military service; or the first 365 days of continuous active service after a break of more than 92 days of active service.
3.b. (U) A Reserve Component Soldier who is not on active duty or who is serving under a call or order to active duty for 365 days or less begins entry-level status upon enlistment in a Reserve Component. Entry-level status for such a Reserve Component Soldier terminates––
3.b.1. (U) 365 days after beginning training if the Soldier is ordered to active duty for training for one continuous period of 180 days or more.
3.b.2. (U) Or 180 days after the beginning of the second period of active duty training if the Soldier is ordered to active duty for training under a program that splits the training into two or more separate periods of active duty. For the purposes of characterization of service or description of separation, the Soldier’s status is determined by the date of notification as to the initiation of separation proceedings.
